Basic Requirements: Black and Tan Coonhounds need an average-sized, securely fenced yard to keep them from following their nose and roaming. Daily exercise is necessary. They are good diggers, so watch for low spots under the fence. Weekly brushing will keep moderate shedding under control.

Temperament: Show-bred hounds are typically friendly and outgoing. Hounds bred to work in the field have more of an instinctive hunting nature.
